MANLIHOOD

So Marisa approached me about the possibility of contributing to her web log, the prospect of which, really appealed to me. I've tried to start my own blog a couple of times, but lack the whateveritude to keep it going. So I think this may be a perfect way to get my blog writing fix minus the pressure of being the singular contributor.

As some of you may know I am a man. 100 % all the way. I have the ability to grow a full moustache in under 24 hours and love to watch sports. Bikes and birds has up to this point been a hypergirly blog, but with the addition of me, a small measure of manliness will hopefully complement all of the talk about doilies and indie-crafted jewelery.

Birds are the feminine or goddess component of the blog. Bicycles should be considered the masculine or testerone-fueled part. The yin and yang if you will. Not sure which is which, but you get the point. As a result, many of blog entries will use bicycles as a jumping off point, although I would rather not be confined exclusively to this topic. Occasionally, I would like to write a paragraph or two about birds, although I do not purport to have any sort of orinthological insight to offer.

I have always loved bicycles and still consider it the purest, most sensible form of transportation. The fact that they are mechanical and technically sophisticated yet have no engine besides the rider is a beautiful paradox in this age of fossil fuel convenience. I also have a Master's degree in transportation policy, so I may occasionally get a little wonkish. I'd like to apologize in advance for this.

SOMETHING NEW

I'm thinking about changing this blog a bit soon...nothing crazy, so don't worry. But, I'm not completely ready to share the idea yet, so stay tuned!

Other than that, life has been the same with it's usual ups and downs. Spring is upon us and I want to do some gardening. I love seeing the daffodils in bloom. I'm trying to figure out if there are certain plants that are so fragrant that they'll cover up the awful cat smell outside. It really is so stinky.

We planned a trip to the Outer Banks in May, I need some ocean time. So as you can imagine, I'm really looking forward to this.

Niko pooped in my closet this morning. That was a first and hopefully a last.

I guess that's all I have to share for now.

VINTAGE PATIO

If I were to buy porch furniture I'd want it to be this style:

It's not in the budget right now, but maybe one day...

LET'S GO!

Have any of you ever been to the Todd Farm Flea Market in Boston? I haven't. But saw a great link on Apartment Therapy about it and it looks like my kind of place. I read the season starts this Sunday. So a trip over there may be in store soon. However, how will I make that happen for the recommended 6 am arrival?

MEDITERRANEAN SNEAKERS

I've always been crazy for Campers. I have one pair that I bought a few years ago that are still in such great shape. I've been wanting to buy another pair but most are made with leather and I don't buy leather anymore. But, I got an email update today about their Mediterranean Sneakers, and guess what? There are ones for both men and women made leather-free! They're also super cute.
